Great post as usual. I just want to add one thing you left out. IMHO a huge reason people bought into the whole QAnon/Pizzagate thing in the first place was that they're carrying around memories (often unconscious) of their OWN abuse as children, and they desperately want to see this as OUT THERE IN THE WORLD, and NOT inside themselves. Huge #s of children are sexually abused or even trafficked by their own families (and I'll go out on a limb here and say it's more likely in rightwing religious families). This, of course, makes the betrayal FAR MORE SIGNIFICANT.
The illusion breaking...several examples leap to mind. The Catholic Church, the Southern Baptist Convention, and Elizabeth Holmes might have a few thoughts on what happens when the illusion breaks.
This whole development has really been a surprise. I am so cynical and disgusted that I had thought the 'pedo' garbage was another feature, not a bug, in this movement. I loved reading your discussion when you used the past tense at one point! I have always thought that we have been consumed as a country by a fever or an illness that has in part been a function of the very real, sick, weird charisma this freak has. Once the illusion is popped it is going to be amazing and strange. I also do not think that there is anyone in that camp who comes close to possessing the compelling, trance-inducing charisma of djt. I don't think he can possibly last his term given his physical and mental state. The VP who is next in line has NO following behind him, no legend, no charisma, and I can't imagine how he is going to attempt to lead the country. I truly hope the bubble explodes and showers the place with the putrid blood and gore of these maniacs.
What's to stop him from releasing some ginned-up "alternative version" of the Epstein files? Or simply redacting his name out of them? That would seem to be the most logical face-saving thing he could do at this point.
Trump so desperately wants to bury this that he had the DOJ fire James Comey's daughter yesterday, Maurene Comey, the prosecutor at SDNY that handled the Epstein, Maxwell and Diddy cases. She must know absolutely everything. Imagine.....You could say, heads are rolling!
Excellent post, Jack. I admit, I still have my doubts. But if even ⅓ of his followers finally see the man behind the curtain, it could make a huge difference to the public.
My concern is twofold: the MAGA base consists not only of some educated people but also people not so much. I'm not trying to be a snob here, but I know a lot of people who, once they swallow the lie, they're too stubborn/lazy/stupid/indifferent to let go. Their lives haven't changed much and they don't look past today. Or this morning. Or the next video game. Next, what if the files get released? Then what? Help me out here, folks. I have stayed on top of this until I now squeak when I walk. My prayer is that the madman in the White House will implode and we'll have a whole new ballgame, which would certainly be refreshing. And, forgive me, but the Upstate New York heat has addled my brain.
I (as an upstate tired-of-the-heat like you!) am also wary of this changing ppl, especially since I’m in a solid red district that doesn’t let go. Let’s hope his tiny fingers lose the grasp they’ve held on our neighbors!

Is there any way that they could release a “fake” Epstein file without The Dumpster in it? That would be my concern.
