Trump Just Fired the Adult in the Room. Here’s What That Tells You About the Next 60 Days.
The Jack Hopkins Now Newsletter #1,078: Friday, November 6th, 2026.
Three weeks ago, Donald Trump said there was “zero chance” Susie Wiles would be replaced. She had his “COMPLETE confidence.” She could stay as long as she wanted.
Friday afternoon…TODAY, at 12:40 pm Central, Trump posted on Truth Social that he replaced her. One hour and twenty minutes ago as I write.
Her last day was TODAY. Stephen Miller takes over Monday. Wiles is being “moved over to the Trump Political Operation,” which is the kind of phrase you use when you need the exit…to sound like a promotion.
Now, I want you to stop and think about who Susie Wiles was in this White House.
She ran the 2024 campaign. The disciplined one. The one that won. She was the first woman ever to hold the chief of staff job, and she lasted longer in it than all four men who held it during the first term combined.
She beat cancer while doing it. She’s the one who told Harmeet Dhillon to hold her resignation until after the election because she understood how it would look. She went on the record in Vanity Fair criticizing how Pam Bondi handled the Epstein files.
She was the person in the building who still thought about consequences.
Steve Bannon has been calling for her head for months. Today, he got it.
So who’s walking in Monday morning?
Stephen Miller. The man who wrote the Muslim ban.
The architect of family separation. The guy who said America’s doors are “closed fully to asylum seekers.” The person who, more than anyone except Trump himself…built the mass deportation machine that voters just repudiated on Tuesday.
He wasn’t the campaign guy. He wasn’t the coalition guy. He was never the guy who worried about the suburbs.
He was the policy guy. The true believer. The one who thinks the problem…with the last two years…wasn’t that they went too far…but that they didn’t go far enough.
And now…he runs the building.
Here’s what I need you to understand about what a chief of staff actually does.
The chief of staff controls who gets in the Oval Office.
Controls what paper lands on the president’s desk. Controls which fights get picked and which get avoided. A chief of staff who thinks politically…keeps the president out of trouble. A chief of staff who thinks ideologically…keeps the president on mission.
Trump had the first kind. He just traded her…for the second kind.
Four days after losing both chambers of Congress.
Think about what a normal president does after a shellacking like Tuesday. Obama lost the House in 2010 and brought in Bill Daley…a business guy…to make nice with the center.
Clinton lost in ‘94 and triangulated. Even Trump…in 2018…brought in Mick Mulvaney, who at least pretended to care about Congress.
This is the opposite move. This is a president who looked at the worst midterm result of his career…heard his own vice president blame the Iran war…admitted himself that gas prices cost him…and then handed the keys to the hardest-liner in the building.
What does that tell you about the next two months?
It tells you the White House has decided the election didn’t happen.
The Democratic majorities don’t take their seats until January 3. That’s eight weeks. Eight weeks where Republicans still control the committees, still control the floor, and nobody can issue a subpoena.
Miller knows that calendar better than anyone. He’s spent his entire career thinking about what you can do by executive action…when Congress won’t cooperate.
So here’s my bet on what the next sixty days look like.
More deportations, not fewer. Mullin already said so Wednesday. With Miller in the chair…the only question is whether they go bigger.
A decision on Iran that leans toward force. Trump said Thursday he’ll decide “very soon” whether to “destroy what is left of” the country. The one voice in the room who might have said “sir, we just lost an election over this” just packed her office.
Executive orders stacked up before January. Anything they want locked in before oversight begins…they’ll try to lock in now.
And…a legal posture built for a fight. Three DOJ officials resigned this week. The ones who ran the Bolton and Brennan prosecutions. Whoever replaces them…will answer to a White House that just told the world it isn’t backing down.
Wiles leaving isn’t the story. Who replaced her is.
If Trump wanted to signal a reset, there were a dozen people he could have picked.
Chris LaCivita. A Hill veteran. Somebody from the business world. Anybody whose name doesn’t make swing voters flinch.
He picked Miller.
That’s not a personnel decision. That’s a statement of intent. The president is telling you…in the clearest language he has…that the next eight weeks are going to be the most aggressive stretch of his presidency…because after that, the hard part starts.
You’ve been warned. By the man himself.
Stay tuned. I’ll write as often as needed over the weekend to keep you informed about what you need to know. Promise.

Back soon.

P.S. Wiles’ last day was Friday. Miller’s first day is Monday. That’s a two-day gap in the most powerful staff job in the world, and nobody filled it. They didn’t need to. Everybody already knows who’s running the building.
