Democracies don’t usually fall apart with a single dramatic act — they weaken when constitutional limits start being treated as flexible. If officers were instructed, verbally and off the record, to treat administrative paperwork like a judicial warrant, that’s not a minor policy tweak. It’s a serious departure from the Fourth Amendment’s core protection: that the government cannot enter a home without judicial approval based on probable cause. When guidance can’t be documented, reviewed, or publicly defended, the risk isn’t just confusion — it’s deliberate evasion of accountability.
The greater danger is what that does over time. If enforcement culture shifts toward prioritizing speed and outcomes over constitutional safeguards, rights become obstacles instead of boundaries. That mindset spreads quietly through training, through incentives, through repetition — and it doesn’t disappear when political leadership changes. Democracies don’t erode because one rule is tested; they erode when pushing past limits becomes normalized. Once institutions learn they can bypass guardrails without consequence, the guardrails stop functioning at all.
ICE needs to be disbanded. There is no salvage for that organization. What concerns me is the officers doing the murdering are not inexperienced, but seasoned officers who have been there for years. It’s bad to the bone.
Diane, you’re not wrong to clock the “seasoned officer” part as the most chilling detail.
When the people pulling the trigger aren’t rookies...but vets...it stops looking like “bad training” and starts looking like the culture + incentives doing exactly what they’ve been doing for years.
And...that’s why a lot of people land where you landed: there’s no “reform” lever left that changes the core behavior. If the pattern is baked in...mission, tactics, accountability structure, internal norms...then “salvage” becomes a PR word...not a strategy.
Also: “bad to the bone” is the RIGHT phrase...because it names the ugly truth: this isn’t a single rogue moment. It’s what happens...when an agency can operate with low transparency...high force...and endless narrative control after the fact.
You see it. You’re not being dramatic. You’re identifying the REAL red flag: experienced people...behaving like this...means the system is training them to.
And Why Not⁉️ this is absolutely the most horrific, deranged outfit this country has ever seen, and must be abolished Full Stop 🛑 as always, Jack, another outstanding article. Thank you, and will reStack ASAP 💯👍
I find this less complex than we often make it out to be, cutting the bottom would be easier. Four states- california, oregon, minnesota, and illinois - have enough video footage at this point to each pick 100 "officers" who have violated state law on camera. Any 100 for which there is video evidence will do. Charge them individually. Walk down to your pd office for help, because with all due respect they are often more creative than prosecutors. 400 of these people charged with state offenses in one week and this bs would stop overnight.
To me this is a five alarm fire. It literally affects everyone. Worse yet, it’s being done quietly without documentation. Plausible deniability. You stated the officers will be the ones to pay the price. Are they even aware of the training the new recruits get? This is about as bad as it gets; just quietly make the Constitution go away, become irrelevant.
So glad the whistle is being blown. My mind wonders what else is being done behind the scenes that hasn’t come to light. How do we fight this??
Thanks for putting the truth out there even though it’s very uncomfortable. Better to know.
At the risk of opening yet one more can of worms, I'm assuming "officers" refer to ICE and not the Military. That having been said, who, precisely, has the authority to instill in these eager minds the guidelines that give them permission to ignore the Constitution? I understand that not one of these "officers" has the capacity to read, much less comprehend, the Constitution. However, the lord god almighty who at this point was sworn in as head honcho of the DHS and, apparently, in the words she allegedly repeated, promised to uphold the Constitution, however the wording driveled out. (That last was not a complete sentence.) But who the f*** now has the capability to tell these "officers" to go ahead and ride roughshod over us? There's a major disconnect here and it needs to be addressed. And who the f*** is going to address it before there is one more step taken and there's no going back. Sorry, Jack, I didn't answer your question. It's off the the principal's office for me.
The shooting of the nurse after he was already dead obviously on national tv was one of the hallmarks of this training being the way it is being done. These people have been indoctrinated to think they are above the law and they have "quotas" to meet. In their mind what's one dead person. There is no sense of regret or anything human. They and border patrol all need to go with this criminal regime. There is not one decent person left working in Washington. The good guys saw the writing on the wall and bailed or were fired because they would not bend the knee or kiss the ring. These guys know no limits to their cruelty!
Jack, I appreciate this article and have restacked as usual. Thank you!
Still, how do we get them out? It cannot happen fast enough. I saw the video of the whistle blower and am grateful that he did that. Who can get ICE out permanently and A pulled our constitution?
At least we have congressional stances in part wanting to defund them. How can we stop their actions?
Who can we stop the prison camps that are being built across the country? I believe someone is trying to stand up for preventing the opening of one huge warehouse and its additions to be used as a prison camp in Georgia from opening. I believe he was going to use the fact that they do not have the water supplies for what the plans are in indicating.
We need help across the country to prevent prison camps., to prevent unconstitutional acts by ICE, to stop the unconstitutional education tactics in tracing ICE agents, and to stop this madness forever
I thought I was too tired to comment tonight, but these concerns have spilled out.

Keep showing up like this, Jane. You are setting a fantastic example of consistency. That's part of the elixir to making this resistance work!

Take out cbp at the same time
Almost named them as well in my post. Correct.

Karen, I’m with you...that reaction is earned. What you’re naming is the guardrail problem: power slipping its LIMITS.
The target that wins is constitutional constraint + oversight + accountability. That keeps us focused... and forces change.
And, Karen Scofield...thank you for the restack! That’s how this spreads!

Limits
LIMITS.
As within Constitutional confines and guardrails.

LIMITS!
No quotas, no masks.
Push Congressional, State and local leadership for accountability
and oversight of detention centers as required by law!
