Someone of X said the didn’t understand how she got the job, and that she must have had dirt on Donald.

No dirt needed.

She raised a fortune for the campaign and stood on stage with the family for years.

The nomination came weeks after the Don Jr. split went public: a soft landing for someone they didn't want as an enemy.

LOYALTY got her the job. LOYALTY keeps her in it.

Jack,

You nailed it! It’s mind boggling to consider the amount of compromising information her years of being in the Trump family inner circle made her privy to…and exactly how destructive it would have been to have her “go rogue!” After all the rumors of drugs and more could have caused that “Trump Money Train” to derail catastrophically, especially since Jr. is floating running for President some time soon. This is going to rapidly become a very interesting story to keep an eye on!! Let’s hope Kimberly starts singing loudly!!

Personally, I have never liked Guilfoyle…she came onto my radar when she was dating and then married Gavin Newsom years ago…and she has always struck me as an opportunist who will hang on to anyones coattails if it would benefit her!

.Christie...thanks for the kind words...and...for the long memory.

You had her NUMBER from the Newsom days...and the coattail read holds up: Newsom...Fox...the Trumps...and now a pizza-chain lawyer from Kentucky. The pattern’s...the PATTERN.

On the “singing” part...I’d lower your expectations. People sing when the protection stops...and...right now RUBIO is standing next to her in Athens...calling her a "great ambassador."

As long as the family is DEFENDING her...she has every reason to stay quiet...and every reason to believe...it’ll blow over. The day to watch...is the day they stop returning her calls. Then...look out!

The Signal messages...the Amex bill...and the gas lobbyist in the Balkans...are DOCUMENTED...and they’re damaging as hell.

Stay tuned, Christie; this one’s not done.

Rubio may standing by her but he’s a liar, like Trump! Rubio is Secretary of State and on his watch the world is on fire!! I think “little Marco” long ago met his level of competence in the Senate…he’s proven himself not to be competent in his role of Secretary of State and, though he still aspires to become President…GOD FORBID! Incompetent along with spineless is not what we need after the chaos of the Trump regime!

As for Kimberly being a “great” ambassador…show us, words are cheap, proving it will be much more difficult and I believe, nigh impossible!

The real lesson of this is to be financially prepared for emergencies. I know it’s not easy for many, especially now, but every little bit you can squirrel away is the cushion you land on when you fall.

When I was saving to buy my house, I had a portion of my paycheck direct deposited into a savings account for the down payment. Once I got the house, I didn’t stop putting money in that account. I use those funds to pay taxes and homeowners’ insurance.

I ended up creating a second savings account to save for vacations and emergencies. Several years ago, my house’s A/C died (in July!). I had to get a completely new system and ductwork. Because of my vacation account, I was able to pay for the whole thing in cash. It took a while to rebuild the cushion to the prior level and I was a bit exposed during the replenishment, but I would have been in far worse shape had I not had that account.

I always recommend to people to direct deposit an amount you can afford into a special bank account to have a cushion. You can have more than one like I do. It’s a little tight in the beginning when you’re first starting the process, but you get used to it surprisingly quickly. It also helps you control your spending. It takes discipline to not run to the savings for every little thing. Create a list of the specific conditions that must occur before you touch that money.

It can take some time to build the account, but there is satisfaction in watching it grow. And it can make a difference in your life if you encounter a bad patch of life.

Jack Hopkins's avatar

Todd...thank you for this!

You just wrote a better personal finance column than most of the ones that get paid for... and YOU did it...with an A/C unit...in JULY.

The part I’d UNDERLINE...for everyone reading...is the one most people skip: you did NOT stop the deposit...after the house closed.

The goal ended...and...the habit...didn’t. That’s THE game.

The people who stay in trouble...treat savings as a project with a finish line. The people who get OUT...treat it as a bill they pay themselves...forever.

The written list of conditions...for TOUCHING the money is SMART, too. Smart as hell. Rules you make when you’re CALM...beat decisions you make when you’re PANICKED...every single time.

Keep squirreling, Todd. And...thanks for proving the point...better than I did!

Thank you for the kind words, Jack.

Something else I’d like to add: As my income increased, I would increase the amount that would go into my savings accounts. When I could spare it, I would put a little extra in each.

This also forced a change in my credit card usage. Since I had less going into my checking account for paying bills, I couldn’t be as extravagant in my card usage. I’m someone who doesn’t like to have large balances and made it a goal that the credit cards had to be paid in full each month. Now, if there was a car repair or a larger purchase, I would alter my spending to get the card paid off as soon as I reasonably could.

I am sympathetic and understand that not everyone can do this at the level I have been doing. If all you can do is a very nominal amount, I encourage you to do that much each paycheck. You will be surprised at how quickly it builds. I found that having my job direct-deposit the designated amount into the savings forced the discipline. It prevented me from skipping deposits for “reasons” and forced me to live within my means.

If you choose to follow a similar path, I WISH YOU SUCCESS!!!

I worked with a few Texans and they had a saying to describe her “all hat, no cattle.”

Jack Hopkins's avatar

Chris K...I'm familiar with that term. I like it...and have used it more than once.

Whatever people think about Texas politics, some damn catchy...and relevant phrases have come out of there over the years.

"Because money that goes directly to a creditor never passes through the recipient’s bank account. There’s no deposit to explain…no transfer to flag…nothing on a financial disclosure that looks like a gift from a political donor."

I'm guessing this happens ALL the time with politicians, and it's likely how Kavanaugh's debts were paid off.

Third party wires and deposits to credit card companies or any other similar mechanism (PayPal, square, Venmo, etc.) to pay down a balance should be illegal or should REQUIRE strict documentation.

These are all bribes. SCOTUS gutted what constitutes a bribe. We need to fix that.

Jack Hopkins's avatar

D.E....you’re right that the MECHANISM is the story.

Kavanaugh’s a fair example: SIX FIGURES of credit card debt vanished in 2016...the explanation was “friends and baseball tickets,” and nobody EVER produced a NAME or a CHECK.

That's not proof of anything...just exactly the kind of thing that should have been DOCUMENTED... and wasn’t.

On the law...of yeah...you’re right about the DIRECTION too. McDonnell narrowed “official act,” Snyder said after-the-fact gratuities aren’t bribery...and a payment to a third party with a vague promise of LOYALTY... now lives in a gray zone...That. Did. Not. Used. To. Exist.

The fix is simple: ANY third-party payment of a public official’s debt is a GIFT...REPORTABLE...no matter WHERE the money lands. The form already asks about liabilities. It should ask WHO paid them.

Yes to all Jack wrote and what in the world are her expenditures to ring up that kind of bill? Too much outflow

Jack Hopkins's avatar

Yeah...lol. She apparently has a Champagne taste...and a Beer budget, at least by the TRULY wealthy folks' standards.

How many more messages are out there from Guilfoyle solicitating funds, from married men no less, to cover her bills for the last several years? You just know this wasn't her first attempt at this!

Jack Hopkins's avatar

Gayle...that’s the right question...and...it’s the one the Journal’s reporters are almost CERTAINLY asking right now.

People who ask ONCE..in a six-day panic are rare. People who’ve built a PATTERN of it –and it appears she has–leave a trail of texts...and EVERY one of those recipients...just learned what their messages might be worth.

The Deters story broke because one man got tired of BEING PROMISED things. He’s unlikely to be the ONLY one. Watch the next two weeks!

Some time ago there was an article somewhere about interviewing or polling people about how they would make enough money to be rich or at least comfortable. Three major responses, if I remember correctly: Inheritance. Lottery. Or insurance payout. Talk about living on the edge.

And this isn't much different than what the rich figure will save them. I somehow managed to live paycheck to paycheck (with a few hair raising exceptions), and now pretty much Social Security, which is enough. I have no frame of reference for the filthy rich, accept many also live on that pivotal divide between rich and poor.

I have to admit it shocked me to find out that she was educated and a prosecutor, not just a bimbo. She was also nice looking before she came down with the trump facial rearrangement syndrome. I still think that she is another one slurping from the government trough. It won't be until many years pass before the public gets a true picture of the staggering wealth grab of this administration.

Lesson learned. Thx for previous response looking forward to the promised post.

I eagerly await your post tomorrow.

My advice? For what it’s worth—it’s now time to attack. Call em all on facts. Show the whole operation. Give em no escape. Ask why they denying Trump. Put the wildest truth-TRUTH -and let em stew.

If anyone can you can.

In the 80’s (and even into the 90’s), I was gleefully spending $$ on all kinds of fun things….. beautiful clothing, very nice jewelry and the like. I bought a house in the late 80’s and did have an account for emergencies but…. I did carry a credit card balance….. back then.

We had 403b’s at work (the not for profit sector’s equivalent of a 401k) and I was fortunate to have had a boss that explained to me why I needed to open and contribute to one. So…. while I was having fun, I was also prepping for the future. Today? I have $$ in a savings account and do not live beyond my means…… I was fortunate in that I never put myself in a position where I had to beg for someone to pay my bill….. like Ms Ambassador..

Kimberly G has always rubbed me the wrong way and this fiasco plus her loose lips have more than convinced me she’s loyal…. maybe a sharp operator but that’s about it….. all I can say is T’s circle sure knows how to pick them….. god help us… I do wonder if the inner inner circle will start to turn on each other if things get rough… now THAT could get interesting.

Is there any area where this crowd is not appalling and/or vulgar? Sexual violence, repeated bankruptcies, inside trading, lying under oath, misappropriation of funds, violation of their oaths of office, and now shakedowns, to name only a few. Each and every one of them disgusts me and I fight each day not to allow that sentiment to carry over to my thoughts of those I know personally who voted for this…it may be a battle I am losing.
