Todd...four lines. The whole tragedy. You forgot the epilogue: he keeps the title anyway.
The rebrand was always the easy part.
New nameplate...new letterhead...a video for X. Lethality you can hang on a door. The hard part...the part that does NOT fit on a placard... is WINNING.
And...that f*cking bill...ALWAYS comes due later... in a currency placards can't pay.
His degree of ignorance is actually frightening....it may also be that he just doesn't give a damn. I don't know how we all sleep at night with this thing in vharge of our Military. Look at the damages already done.
You're right. I must admit that I am in a somewhat weary phase... Out of patience with a lot of this stuff. It's not directed at you per se or anyone on "our team"...I just still can't believe my eyes and I keep wondering how far they are going to let that creature in the Oval go. He was out there Sabre rattling nukes again today. That should not be normalized or tolerated by ANYONE in our Gov. That sort of talk just isn't done... And he appears to have a fetish for it. I've bern watching the patter for quite some time. All the way back to 'fiasco I' when he openly asked " How come we can't use nukes?". I kid you not. Well.. That's my rant for today. Thanks for being there.
One way authoritarian movements succeed is by persuading people that knowledge is a form of corruption and ignorance a form of authenticity. Experts become enemies. Scientists become suspect. Evidence becomes optional. What matters is not what is true, but who is loyal.
Pete Hegseth’s famous declaration that he had not washed his hands in years because he did not believe germs were a real concern was often dismissed as a joke. It was not a joke. It was a glimpse into a worldview that treats scientific knowledge as something to be mocked rather than understood.
As Secretary of Defense, Hegseth has reportedly made flu vaccination optional for service members. The predictable result was declining vaccination rates, outbreaks of illness, widespread sickness among troops, and reports that at least one service member died during a flu outbreak. None of this should have surprised anyone. Microbiology and virology are not ideological adversaries. Viruses do not respond to political messaging. They exploit human vulnerability with perfect indifference.
What is striking about the new Christian nationalist politics is not its Christianity. Religious faith and scientific inquiry have coexisted for centuries. What is new is the elevation of ignorance into a political virtue. Entire fields of knowledge—public health, epidemiology, climate science, history itself—are treated with suspicion because they place limits on ideology’s ability to define reality.
History offers a warning. Societies become vulnerable when leaders encourage citizens to distrust institutions of knowledge while demanding greater trust in authority. The less people believe in evidence, the more dependent they become on those who claim to speak for truth.
The question is not whether Pete Hegseth understands microbiology or virology. The question is why a movement has emerged in which a lack of understanding is presented as a mark of authenticity. Democracies depend upon citizens who can distinguish fact from fiction. Authoritarian movements depend upon citizens who no longer care to make the distinction.
That difference is not academic. It can be measured in weakened institutions, preventable suffering, and sometimes, in lives lost.
Yes! Excellent point. It's as tho the form of ignorance you describe is morphed/perverted into a merit badge worthy form of machismo, or strength in their warped heads. It's as though we're all considered nerdy weaklings for insisting on safety equipment before we skateboard, or fly in a wingsuit.... strong, capable people don't need knee pads or helmets after all! Did you get a laceration? Just dump some mercuro-chrome chrome on it and quit whining.. Will ya? The Flu? Walk it off!
Remember Trump and Covid 19? He minimized it and poo pooped everyone's suffering until He got it... Then he was in Walter Reed getting the latest vaccines and newly formulated remedies up his ugly wazoo.
Pete Kegbreath is a morally and intellectually bankrupt human being in a whole clown car cabinet full of equally morally and intellectually bankrupt human beings. Why do we expect anything different from him?
How much evidence of incompetence does there need to be for him to be fired? A recruit died! If from the flu, someone needs to be held very publicly accountable!
He is a complete and total moron. SO completely inept, unqualified, just plain stupid. And a criminal for extrajudicial killings. He needs to be held accountable. AND SOON.
I am wondering if the other vaccines that the military has given all their recruits and officers since the beginning of time it seems. I know my da, Uncle, son and spouse all had the haircut and the vaccines basically upon arriving at boot camp along with uniforms and other necessities. I would be very worried about going to another country that may not have the vaccines for deployment. Ignorance is not bliss it is just plain ignorance and lack of education or indoctrination into some cult...which it seems to be partly...is going to be the cause of death for our servicemen and women. We have already seen it with the troops in Iraq that disagreed with the higher ups about not getting the protection and warning they should have had. Luckily I have been able to get my spouse his vaccines especially with his long covid he is at higher risk.
thanks Jack for putting this out there. I had read about that outbreak. Senseless...
Not trying to be flippant, but after reading your article "The Offense Trap" I was trying, unsuccessfully to be cool, calm and collected in my war to save our country. I feel better after seeing the title of your article today "Pete Hegseth Is Ignorant as F*ck"
Kegsbreath is an actual DEI hire! DRUNK, ENTITLED INCOMPETENT!
And because of all 3, it won’t just be his war “ that isn’t really a war” that decimates the military, it will be his denial of scientific facts, in lockstep with the rest of the administration.
Hegseth is a joke…nothing but a sad, stupid, loser of a joke! I can remember when I was in elementary school, years ago, hearing on the evening news about a Meningitis outbreak at Fort Ord, Monterey, California. Young recruit after young recruit became ill and many died because of the meningitis the spread so quickly and easily due to the close quarters that the recruits slept in, ate in, etc.! Vaccines are there to prevent this kind of tragedy, we are so lucky to have these tools of protection, but because of the arrogance stupidity of Hegseth there is now a recruit dead, and other sick! Thank you for calling Hegseth out for the fckr he truly is…my career Navy dad would be washing my mouth out with soap almost every day because fckr is the only thing I can say about this man, and the entire regime!
Pete Hegseth, minor Fox new weekend host, military veteran and out of control lunatic.
First things first. Hegseth served in uniform for which he deserves our respect
Second, that ends the reason for our respect. Hegseth has no concept of readiness. Readiness means you have the resources, both hardware and personnel to take on the tasks that are legally put in front of you.
Compromise either one and you put the security and safety of everyone in the United States at risk.
One important point. There are only two people that can issue military orders to engage an enemy, the President of the United States and the Secretary of Defense (War). Both are incompetent and one should know better.
This means that the US can plan on engaging “enemies” simply for the sake of covering up poor decisions by leadership. Additionally, these decisions will be made based on the potential benefit, financially, to the President of the United States. Any excuse given for an attack will be a masking for that real reason.
To Trump, Hegseth is expendable and if Congress ever grows a set of balls and goes after this idiot, Trump will fire him in a New York minute – my apologies to New York.
One last thought. Isn’t that a nazi emblem on his chest? Look like an Iron Cross to me.
- Pete Hegseth renames Department of Defense to the Department of War.
- He names himself the Secretary of War.
- He fights one war.
- He loses.

Outrageous! But then again, everything that is being done by this group of politicians is.
All to please the mad narcissists and their Magatrash.
Nina...the frustration is more than earned...there's a new outrage practically EVERY news cycle...and the fatigue is real.
The only thing I'd gently offer...and ONLY because we've been talking about it all week: the anger is the fuel...not the destination.
They'd love nothing more than for the opposition to SPEND its energy on names ...rather than outcomes.
Channeling it...organizing...showing up...winning the kitchen-table argument...is what actually costs them something.
Thanks for reading...and for being fired up. Oh, how we need that energy pointed in the right direction, Nina!

Sher'...it's the question underneath all of it, isn't it; is it ignorance...or indifference?
And...in a way...it almost doesn't matter....because the OUTCOME at Lackland is the same...either way.
The unsettling part...is exactly what you said: the damage is ALREADY measurable... and...it was entirely predictable.
The job isn't to lose sleep...it's to make sure the predictable consequences get documented...named...and remembered when it COUNTS.
That's the part we control!
Thanks for reading.

I’m guessing Hegseth missed the book and information on the Spanish Flu in 1918. He’s an idiot
Remember Trump and Covid 19? He minimized it and poo pooped everyone's suffering until He got it... Then he was in Walter Reed getting the latest vaccines and newly formulated remedies up his ugly wazoo.

Trump values loyalty over competence. He has to do something that publicly embarrasses Trump to get fired.
It such blinding stupidity it defies words to describe it. The Three Stooges would do a better job than any of this crew thats in charge.
He is a complete and total moron. SO completely inept, unqualified, just plain stupid. And a criminal for extrajudicial killings. He needs to be held accountable. AND SOON.

Remain calm, take your injections, enjoy a nice walk in Nature, stay hydrated and hug your lovies.
