I read Jack Hopkins because he doesn’t do the thing most political writers do — hedge until the point disappears into mush. He tells you what happened, then hands you the receipt: the exact dollar figure, the court filing, the disclosure form. The DOJ’s $892,192 banner. The DNC mortgaging its own headquarters while sitting on $18 million in debt. A federal judge who stopped taking DOJ’s word for it on the Epstein files. That’s not commentary dressed up as news. That’s the actual work, already done for you.
I pay for it because that kind of work doesn’t happen for free, and because in a media environment full of people guessing out loud with confidence, I’d rather read someone who checked first, every time, no exceptions.

Glad I made this decision when I did for so many reasons. This is one subscription I’ll never give up. I don’t have many. KU is my cheapest way to read and I need that and my music subscription which I can’t live without. Well, I could but it really is important for my mental health.
I’ve been a paid subscriber for just under a year. I honestly don’t remember how I found Jack and his articles. It took me a minute to decide yes! I’m in (I was reading a huge boatload of things then and was very overwhelmed…. sorting through all of it was not easy). Now?? You’d have to pry this subscription out of my cold, dead fingers. There are not many people that will give you high level strategic thinking, analysis, steps to take, reassurance and encouragement all while bringing the receipts and teaching how to think and look at what is happening. We are truly learning to see past all the noise, b.s. and games. Jack is a treasure, well worth the price of admission and I am very grateful he is doing all he is. Two thumbs up from me!

Wow, you had me reaching for my Visa. I’ve just started to weed out my paids, the number grew to be absurdly high, more than I’d want to admit. Or be able to view or read in a day, or a days worth in a week. Weeding out is laborious and cumbersome, but I know one contributor who’ll always be on the list. Jack brings such a straight-ahead message unlike most anything you’ll see, and solutions instead of reiterating the problems we all know all too well. And taking the time to read and respond to our comments unlike anyone else, and I mean that. This is rare and appreciated and I’m glad to be here.
@Donna: what got me on the filtering project was just that- some contribs gave a week’s notice, but most renewed without. I set aside a low-limit card for online stuff- I’d rather pay an overcharge fee than unknowingly buying fifteen more subscriptions for stuff I haven’t read in six months. I don’t know if creators have any control over this but I think not. Or, I’d like to think not.
I recently did the same thing. It does take time but it is worth it. I cancelled some even the ones that had time . I learned they stay as paid until renewal time but don’t renew which is nice sine you get your full payment used.
Teri, I received a notice of an upcoming renewal charge to one Substack I had cancelled some time ago. It took time and steps to stop the automatic renewal fee, but I did succeed. I had thought that that cancellation would mean no more charge, but I saw I was wrong. In case that experience is helpful, it seems I should tell you that it happened.
Jack’s Substack, on the other hand, is definitely one of several I am keeping, and each one is valued for different reasons. I especially appreciate the way Jack lets us members know we are heard and gives us much information with patterns to contemplate.
I've weeded my subscriptions out a couple of times! I caught myself almost in small car payment territory and slammed it all to a screeching halt. 😅. I feel the dues I pay here are well spent. I haven't committed to a year anywhere else.
I like it here because Jack is solid, brilliant, honest and supportive. He's also very human, warm and yet no bs...he tells it like it is. Jack comes with the facts, the analysis and the receipts. This community feels supportive as well intellectually. There are so many intelligent and varying viewpoints yet everyone is polite and respectful and we do have fun with humerous observations. I see it as a stabilizer and a safe place to land and learn while we all navigate this crisis.
Jack, thank you so much for holding the price for those of us who are already members! I am thankful for your articles, as you already know, and I appreciate reading them as often as I can, as well as the comments and your thoughtful replies to the commenters. You make a difference!

I always get notified. You can go in and cancel what you don’t want to renew and you will get to have them until the renewal was due.
Not a day has gone by that I regretted my subscription to Jack back when he had 54,000 followers. MTN had been my most expensive before Jack🤣
