Thank you for bringing this to our attention, Jack! THIS answers a question that has been burning in me for years: where the f$%k are the 'ones you don't hear about', and isn't there a critical mass of them who have some ability to pushback and hold the line in high places? I was speaking with a 70+ year old woman yesterday who was telling me about federal employees she has spoken to, and how impressed she is by their professionalism, expertise, and quiet, moderate, voices. These are the people I have always respected, no matter what party they vote for; THESE are the people I long for to be in those high places; I want to feel proud that our country has a shit ton of highly skilled, high character people in our government, who just exhibit the best of America and do not fall into that reality tv show infection that has become our public facing political system, with a public that seems to be gripped by the same mentality. Now I worry that this group, having a twitter and other accounts, will be targeted like everybody else, with attempts to neutralize their voices. I truly hope not. I just pray that the worst behaving morons running things now are not able to overcome the longstanding habit of freedom this country has pushed further along over the years.
Thank you for this, Philip. You nailed the ache so many of us feel...the longing for principled, competent people who actually give a damn.
The good news? They’re still there. Quiet. Steady. Still honoring their oaths. And now...finally...some of them are stepping into the light. That’s why I’m pushing @SteadyState2025 hard. Not just because they deserve backup...but because we do too.
We need to know we’re not alone. That we’re not crazy for still believing in character...in duty, and in country.
I appreciate your replies tremendously! Can't imagine how you manage all your media traffic. As always, you state things more articulately than I can, and 'ache', 'longing', are such apt descriptors for what I have long felt as a voting individual in the US. It's a deep longing and as well a deeply competitive expectation that I want the best and most impressive team leading the show and watching our backs...all of our backs...as this unique historical experiment continues. Plus, I f$%cking HATE bullies and mendacious pieces of shit who have all the money, power, and things they could ever want but it's never enough. The cruelty and subversion are eye popping. And doesn't the legal profession have any self respect?
I have been following them since they started. They are really great at spelling it out so that we the people can fully understand what is going on . NO fluff or disinformation.
Wonderful. Thanks for this. I got off Bluesky because of the collective outrage echo chamber without direction. Might go back on and support these people.
Wow. From the first time I saw your grizzled, badass avatar I knew you were one to watch. I have been having a seriously difficult time realizing these folks *had* to exist, but just no clue how to find them. Or how much was magical thinking. When I read your lede I immediately thought of Dan Rather, who goes by “steady” here and he has apparently always lived it.
I think I’ll say it again: what you have offered us in this piece is invaluable, the right thing at the right time. And I’ll even considering re-upping in X just to help. (But god, why do I need a shower after every time I use it?) Don’t answer that, something about dogs and fleas.
I feel like I have to hold my nose when I go on Twitter/X. Fortunately, I rarely go there anymore but have followed these folks if for no other reason than to show that they are supported.
This is the kind of thing I was hoping for. I can do my part with protesting loudly and keeping up with what's going on. But I was hoping that there were people with their expertise taking action. We really need people like this. I think together we all can overcome this nightmare. Thanks for letting us know. I have already subscribed.
This is just what I've been secretly hoping for. I will subscribe immediately. If they can influence just a few key people perhaps this big ship can turn around.

This is such a breath of fresh air! I wondered if there were patriots behind the scenes trying to right the ship of state. Woohoo!
