Clearest explanation I’ve ever seen. Thanks Jack. But it troubles me deeply to know this because I feel it makes so much sense, and makes it even more difficult to overcome this mentality.
I enjoy a good fictional anti-hero in movies and books too. But that's where I draw the line. They even might have a redeeiming feature sometimes. But this isn't fiction....it's true-crime in real time. Nothing justifies admiration for Trump. LOL...heard he's worried about getting into heaven!
Honestly, I was never able to watch any of the movies you cite because subliminally I knew it was conditioning. I had no idea HOW MUCH SO and how negative the ramifications could be for our democracy. I’m looking forward to you telling us, if you can, how to flip it? Bless you! You go where we’ve seen no one else go before!
I have never seen any of those movies for same/similar reasons. They have never appealed to me and I feel like I am being jerked around by the narrative. Even as a kid I did not like the cowboys and Indians stories.
I still don’t quite get it. When I rooted for the bad guy it was because of something good I could see in him, a quality I could relate to. Anyone who has taught high school “gets” Walter White. That kinship of experience is what hooked me. I followed him down the slippery slope because I understood his frustration and sense of defeat from all aspects of the world around him. No matter what he did, it wasn’t enough. He was Howard Beale in Network, screaming “I’m mad as hell, and I’m not going to take it anymore.” Only I can’t see anything good in trump. The acts he has committed don’t just make him an unsympathetic character, they make him repulsive. He’s not De Niro in Heat, he’s Jeffrey Dahmer, Charles Manson; no one rooted for them. Maybe it’s because I’m from New York but trump was always slimy - from his days as a slum lord to developer, notorious for not paying contractors, attorneys, or accountants. Who among us is cool with not getting paid? He didn’t care. On to ventures he mismanaged right into bankruptcy putting staff out of work and vendors left with pennies on the dollar. Then everything from unwanted advances, to molestation, and sexual assaults on girls and women. He cheats on his wife of the moment and treats his kids like trash, except for the “nice” things he says about his daughter which are actually just creepy. And the lies, everyday the lies. This is just the obvious pre-2016 stuff. So nothing redeemable here, just a grotesque montage of bad acts.
So I love you, Jack, and I appreciate your work and insights, but this time, I’m still not getting it.
Glycine question: I was inspired by your glycine column awhile back, and just got my bottle from Thorne. You said $29 for 250 capsules, which is what I got. But the bottle says 2 capsules = 1 gram. So 3 capsules = 1.5 grams. Your column said you take 3 capsules for 3 grams.... did you add wrong or did you get a different strength or ...? Just wondering if I missed something in some small print somewhere. My daughter and I are going to try them tonight. Looking forward to more refreshing sleep! Also, I'm not sure why I take your advice when I am *very* advice-skeptical about such things, but you come across as trustworthy in a good number of ways. So here we go. (And now...it's time to read "Why America roots for the a**hole"!) Thanks :)
oh my god! I have never even considered this before. And it makes all the sense of the world!
Thank you for your insight!
The henchmen fail but the villain carries on

But, but, but. . .Robert Redford and Paul Neeewmaaaan.
The only bad guy I rooted for was Professor Fate in “The Great Race.”
