I was thinking about Blanche earlier today and hoping you’d write about him, Jack.
I heard about this and I have to give you a huge thanks because, for whatever reason, I did not put two and two together in that the bulk of the whole bench would be unavailable for the DHS pending case should they recuse themselves… What a bunch of sneaky bastards this DOJ is…... I’m positive they are all hoping people are not paying attention and or don’t ’get’ the implications…. Well! Good luck with THIS bunch…..
I’d vote tomorrow if I could but early voting doesn’t start for a while here. I did grab the League of Women Voters guide yesterday while at the local independent bookstore so I can research the judges seeking election. The only one of the three actions that will be hard is taking five people…. The rest? 👍 Also restacking this…
Btw…. Is it just me or does Blanche kinda resemble Richard Nixon……?? Hmmm.
You mentioned exactly what I wanted people to see: if that many judges step aside...the bench left to hear the DHS case looks VERY different...and...they're counting on folks NOT connecting those dots. YOU... connected them, Deb.
I like that you grabbed the League of Women Voters guide. Researching the judicial races is the step most people SKIP...and it matters SO much. And...don't sweat the "take five people" part. Even one or two count...a LOT!
As for Nixon...YES. And...my favorite: Simon Bar Sinister...from the old Underdog cartoon lol
Is this the right time to bring up the Supreme Court justices who take gifts from an entity who then have cases before the court? They didn’t recuse themselves when many said they should. I didn’t hear Todd challenging them to recuse themselves. Every single vote counts in this election. We need a reason for the government to find their ethics again, assuming they ever had any. Vote.
The double standard is hard to miss: recusal gets demanded LOUDLY when it HELPS...and the silence is DEAFENING when it DOESN'T. Ethics rules shouldn't depend on WHOSE side you're on.
You're right that EVERY damn vote counts.
Thanks for reading these, Mary Ann... and for making sure people don't forget the BIGGER picture!
This is why I subscribe! Thank you for getting your analysis out so quickly, because it really is crunch time, as you say. It is up to all of us to vote.
Jennifer...I wish you could see how big a smile I HAVE on the INSIDE. Thank you.
(I say "on the inside" because a traumatic brain injury and facial reconstruction in my Navy days forever altered my ability to show a "toothy" smile. One reason some people think I'm always about to "eat" them alive lol.)
It IS crunch time. And it IS up to ALL of us to VOTE.
When Blanche can’t win in court, he takes out the court itself. And thinking of Fr. Niemoller’s poem, when they come for the judges, there’s nobody left after that but us.
I’ve been checking my registration and that of my husband once a week for months. Can’t do early voting in our state, but you better believe we’ll be there in person on Election Day, and will offer rides to anyone in town who needs one. This is the first midterm since we moved here where there’s a full slate of Democratic Party candidates for state house and senate, and we’re all fighting like hell to get as many of them as possible elected.
Faith...you summed it up perfectly: when you can't win in court, you go AFTER the court.
The Niemöller comparison...yeah...that hits hard...because the judges really ARE one of the LAST lines... before it reaches the rest of us.
Weekly registration checks for you and your husband...Election Day in person...and offering rides? That's the kind of commitment that actually MOVES the needle.
A full slate of candidates for state house AND senate is a big deal, too. Wishing all of THEM...and all of YOU...the best of luck.
The line that stuck with me is the judge in Texas, sitting at her desk tonight with a hard case in front of her, wondering if she's next. You found the real target. Schiltz will survive this. The damage is done by the judges who read the headline and quietly soften their next order, and nobody will ever see it happen.
Anyone paying attention knows this playbook. Punish one loudly and let the rest do the math. Six judges said on the record that court orders were being ignored. The reply was a misconduct complaint and a demand that they step aside from DHS cases.
Then there is the man behind it. Todd Blanche cannot apply the law honestly, and I've stopped waiting for him to learn. He holds the most important legal office in the country and uses it to reward loyalty and punish anyone who stands in the way. In November he told a room of young lawyers it was a war. Now he wants a neutral umpire. Pick one.
He didn't invent this, either. Last summer the Justice Department filed a misconduct complaint against Judge Boasberg and asked to take his cases away. Judge Sutton, a Bush appointee, dismissed it in December, finding no proof and no misconduct even if the words had been said. The Chief Justice had already said impeachment is no answer to a ruling you dislike. Blanche saw all of that and filed against six more judges anyway. He didn't learn from the first loss. He learned to do it louder.
History has seen versions of this before. In 2006, the Gonzales Justice Department fired a group of U.S. attorneys, and the fallout over whether politics drove it helped end his tenure. In 1973, Nixon ordered the special prosecutor fired, and his attorney general resigned rather than do it. Each time, someone at Justice had to choose between the law and the boss. Blanche has made his choice, and he's making it in public.
Your four steps lay it out cleanly: ignore, accuse, demand, empty. And the Scalia clerk detail should be on every talking point we have. When a Bush appointee gets labeled an enemy, the "liberal activist" script falls apart.
An attorney general answers to the law. Blanche answers to one man.
The midterms are weeks away. Check your registration today, and bring five people with you.

Thanks so much, Deb.
Thanks... both for reading...and for the restack.

Thanks, Jack. Just waiting for my ballot. It’ll be back into the drop box within a day or two.
FANTASTIC, Greg!
Well done, my friend.
-Jack
Same here… We’re just waiting for our mail-in ballots… which we will fill out and then hand deliver to our county office. 👍🏻
CJ...I LIKE that!
You're on it. THIS is how we win.

Mine went today!!

Mary Ann...great point.
Yes...it's EXACTLY the right time.

We are going to need a bigger court system to handle all the trials of these fascists.
Roberta...I think you have something there.

Everyone needs to VOTE to save our country. I voted as early as possible here in Florida.
YES...you DID, Teri!
THAT...is how we do this.
VOTE. Take FIVE.
-Jack
I keep telling neighbors when I see them the importance of voting if they want change. I even have explained what judge Lutigg told everyone.
YOU...are DOING the work, Teri.
That's outstanding. It really...truly is.
