There Is An American In Iran Right Now. And The President Posted “KEEP THE OIL, ANYONE?”
Jack Hopkins Now Newsletter #842: Friday, April 3rd, 2026
Somewhere in southwestern Iran tonight…there is an American service member whose status is unknown.
Not a statistic. Not a talking point. A person. A weapons systems officer. Someone’s child. Possibly someone’s parent.
Ejected from a burning F-15E Strike Eagle over hostile territory…with Iran’s government on state television offering a reward to any civilian who finds them and hands them over…alive.
That is happening right now. Tonight. As you read this.
And here is what the President of the United States posted on Truth Social today:
“KEEP THE OIL, ANYONE?”
That is not a paraphrase. That is a direct quote. Capital letters. Question mark. Posted while a search-and-rescue operation was actively underway in Iran for a missing American crew member.
I need you to sit with that for a moment.
Not the policy. Not the politics. Just the…humanity of it.
Or…the absence of it.
Signal
Here is what actually happened today…the sequence, in order.
An F-15E Strike Eagle…a two-seat fighter jet, pilot and weapons systems officer… was shot down over Iran by Iranian forces. The two crew members ejected safely. US special forces located one of them and rescued him, alive, on Iranian territory. The search for the second continues.
Then it got worse.
An A-10 attack plane was also lost to hostile fire. Two search-and-rescue helicopters were hit, injuring their crews, before safely returning to base.
The helicopter carrying the rescued F-15 pilot was hit by small arms fire…wounding crew members on board.
Iranian police were filmed on the ground shooting at US search-and-rescue helicopters flying at low altitude.
Iranian state TV told civilians that anyone who located US troops would be rewarded by the government.
And then…the President of the United States…when asked whether today’s events would affect negotiations with Iran…said this:
“No, not at all. No, it’s war. We’re in war.”
Five words. Brushed aside. Back to Truth Social. Back to the oil post.
Here is what makes this the signal and not just the news:
This comes after Trump said…during his primetime address on Wednesday…that there was “not a thing” Iran could do to stop potential US strikes. “They have no anti-aircraft equipment. Their radar is 100% annihilated. We are unstoppable as a military force,” he said.
Two days later…an F-15 was shot down. A second plane was hit. Two rescue helicopters were hit. Iranian police fired on the search mission.
Unstoppable.
Pattern
This is not a one-day story. It is the culmination of a pattern that has been building since February 28th.
Claim total air superiority. Just Thursday, CENTCOM Commander Admiral Brad Cooper said: “Now in our fifth week of the campaign, it is my operational assessment that we are making undeniable progress. We don’t see their navy sailing. We don’t see their aircraft flying, and their air and missile defense systems have largely been destroyed.”
The next day, Iran shot down an F-15.
This is what happens when a war is managed by press release. When the gap between the public claim….and the operational reality….becomes so wide….that reality starts sending its own dispatches….in the form of wreckage photographs on Iranian state media.
The US has now lost at least 16 MQ-9 Reaper drones over Iran since the war began. Three F-15s went down earlier to friendly fire. Now an F-15E to enemy fire. An A-10. Two rescue helicopters hit.
And…today…a missing American somewhere in Iran, while Tehran offers a bounty on their head.
This is what “nearing completion” looks like.
Doctrine
There is a man or woman out there tonight who flew that jet because they were ordered to.
Someone who trusted that the people who sent them had been honest about what they were flying into. Who believed…because they were told…that Iran’s air defenses were, in the president’s own words, “100% annihilated.”
They were not.
The lie did not stay in the briefing room. The lie did not stay on Truth Social. The lie went up in the cockpit with them.
That is what happens when leaders perform confidence instead of practicing it.
Implication
Three things to watch.
One:
The missing crew member is now the story…and…it is a story that will not be managed by a press lid or a Truth Social post.
Either they are recovered safely, in which case the administration will claim it as a victory. Or…they are captured, in which case the United States has a prisoner of war in Iran. The second scenario changes this war fundamentally. Watch for it.
Two:
Iran just proved…in public, with wreckage photos…that US air superiority is not what this administration has claimed.
Every foreign government…every defense analyst…and every nervous Republican senator just saw that proof. The credibility damage from today is structural. It does not heal with a press conference.
Three:
The UN Security Council is expected to vote next week on a Bahraini resolution to secure transit passage in the Strait of Hormuz.
That vote now happens in the shadow of a downed F-15…a missing American…and an Iran that just demonstrated it can still reach US aircraft. Watch how that vote goes… and watch who abstains.
Orientation
Here is the frame.
There is a human being out there tonight…who flew into a war they were told was nearly won. Into skies they were told were safe. Trusting a chain of command that told them Iran’s defenses were annihilated.
Whatever you think about this war…whatever your politics…that person deserves a government that tells them the truth before it sends them into the sky.
They did not get that.
That is not a partisan statement. That is a statement about what we owe the people we ask to fight.
Stay angry in the right direction tonight.
Stay clear. Stay steady. Stay dangerous.

Back soon.

The free edition gave you the facts and the frame.
But…there is a question underneath today’s story…that nobody in the mainstream coverage is asking directly.
How does an Iranian military that was declared “100% annihilated” shoot down an American F-15 …and then shoot at the helicopters that came to rescue the crew?
The answer involves something more specific and more alarming than incompetence.
Tonight, paid subscribers get the full map:
What Iran actually used to bring down that F-15…and what it tells us about five weeks of claims regarding destroyed air defenses
The specific intelligence warnings that were available before today…and the question of whether anyone in the chain of command acted on them
What a captured American service member means legally…diplomatically…and politically…and…why it changes this war in ways Trump cannot manage with a Truth Social post
The two-week window…what actually has to happen before April 6th and after it… and what today’s events do to that timeline
This is the analysis that doesn’t fit in a cable news chyron.
If today was the day something broke through for you…the door is open. The rate you lock in never changes.

A truly vile man without any humanity
This is exactly who Donald J. Trump is…there is no concern for those he has put in harms way in order to play “a war time President,” something he’s talked about doing a number of times! There is no concern for the people of this country that he placed in financial jeopardy with the increasing prices of everything from gas to food to medicine!! To say he is unfit is an understatement…he is a delusional, ignorant fool who is playing with the lives and welfare of not only those in this country but everyone on this planet!
