The Richest Man on Earth Is Coming for Your Vote
The four-step playbook, the foreign version, and the end game nobody’s naming
The Jack Hopkins Now Newsletter #1,056: Thursday, October 15th, 2026.
Less than 48 hours ago, I wrote an article saying Elon Musk has put $366 million into this election cycle to keep one party in control of Congress. $158 million of it went to a single Senate super PAC in one summer…more than the entire Democratic Party raised from all its donors for its Senate effort that quarter.
Read that again. One man. One quarter. Outspent a national party.
Now ask the only question that matters in business and in politics: what does he expect to get for it?
Nobody writes a check that size for fun. Not Musk. Not anyone. A man who demands a return on every dollar he puts into a rocket does not turn into a charity when the subject is a Senate seat. He is buying something. And what he is buying is you: your vote…your rules…your referee.
This is not a left-versus-right story. It is an owner-versus-everybody story. Once you see the pattern…you cannot unsee it.
The attack at home: buy the megaphone, buy the referee, buy the result
Here is the playbook. It is not complicated. That…is what makes it dangerous.
Step one: own the megaphone.
He bought Twitter, fired most of the staff…restored the accounts the old regime had thrown off…and renamed it X. When he wants a candidate to win…he does not need to buy an ad.
He posts. Two hundred million followers get it free…and the algorithm handles the rest. No newspaper baron in American history has had that reach…that speed…and that little accountability. No one. Ever. In history.
Step two: buy the election.
He contributed more than $250 million to getting Trump elected…ran his own super PAC…and handed out million-dollar checks to voters while the Justice Department warned the sweepstakes could violate federal election law. He did it anyway.
Then he turned to 2026: more than $276 million since July…all for Republicans…with a serious turn-out-the-vote operation in Texas on top of the television money.
Step three: run the government.
After the win…he walked into the White House as a “special government employee,” a designation that does not require public financial disclosure…and ran DOGE.
DOGE cut thousands of federal jobs, targeted the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau for dismantling…fired senior FEMA officials…and pushed into sensitive payment systems at Treasury, Social Security, and the IRS.
Asked about it in the Oval Office, he said this was “what democracy is all about.” On Fox he went further: if the president’s will is not implemented…he argued…we do not live in a democracy…we live in a bureaucracy. One man’s will. That is the definition he is working with.
Step four: change who gets to vote.
His current crusade is the SAVE Act…which would require documentary proof of citizenship to register. He has labeled opponents “traitors,” and in February he declared the bill “must be done or democracy is dead.”
Notice the move: the man spending hundreds of millions to pick the winners is lecturing you about election integrity.
Megaphone. Money. Machinery. Membership rolls. That is not activism. That is acquisition.
The attack abroad: same playbook, different flags
If you think this stops at the water’s edge, you have not been paying attention.
Germany.
Weeks before the February 2025 election, Musk posted that “only the AfD can save Germany” and endorsed the party in an op-ed for Welt am Sonntag. He livestreamed with its leader, Alice Weidel, and beamed himself into an AfD rally to tell Germans to move past guilt over their history.
German law bans foreign campaign contributions, so he sent no money. He sent reach …an influence campaign…that mirrored the tactics he used to re-elect Trump.
The leaders of the governing party…compared him to Vladimir Putin; the opposition leader called it an unprecedented act of interference between friendly countries.
This is a party that Germany’s domestic intelligence agency has classified as extremist. It finished second. He expressed his delight.
Britain.
He called Britain a tyrannical police state, said civil war was “inevitable” during the 2024 Southport riots…promoted far-right figures like Tommy Robinson on his platform…and met Nigel Farage amid speculation about a large donation to Reform UK; one that could only be routed through X’s British subsidiary…since he cannot legally give as an individual.
Brussels.
When the EU enforced its Digital Services Act against X…and issued the law’s first-ever fine, €120 million…for breaking transparency rules…Musk called it censorship and sued.
Then came the part that should chill you. Trump called the fine censorship…the State Department sanctioned five Europeans including former commissioner Thierry Breton…and in September 2026 the Justice Department asked the EU’s General Court to let the United States intervene on Musk’s side.
Stop and absorb that. The foreign policy of the United States is now deployed to protect one man’s social-media company from one democratically passed law.
Everywhere he goes it rhymes: back the hardest-right party on the ballot…attack the institutions that regulate him…and when they push back…call it censorship.
The end game: not president. Owner.
People keep asking whether Musk wants to be president.
Wrong question. He was born in South Africa; he can’t be. And…he does not need to be.
Watch what a man invests in, not what he says. He owns:
The dominant real-time news platform in the West.
The company NASA and the Pentagon depend on to reach orbit.
The satellite network that decides whether a battlefield has internet.
An AI company trained on everything X users say.
And for a season…an “efficiency” operation inside the systems that cut every federal check.
Put those together…and the end game writes itself. He does not want to run the state. He wants the state unable to run him.
Every target he picks…the CFPB…Europe’s content rules…Germany’s wall around the AfD…the voter rolls at home…is a check on concentrated private power. Remove enough of them…and you get a world governed by whoever moves fastest. He…is the fastest.
Call it what it is. Not a coup. A buyout.
The objective is a system where the referee works for the owner…where regulators fear retaliation from Washington…where the public square is a private asset…and where the rolls get trimmed to the voters most likely to keep it that way.
Filmmaker Alex Gibney, whose new documentary on Musk drew legal threats from Musk’s companies…argues the midterm spending is driven by fear of what a Democratic Congress could do. Of course it is.
A Congress that can subpoena him…audit his contracts…and write rules he cannot dodge…is the last check standing. $366 million is the price of removing it.
What you do about it
Here is the good news, and it is real: money can buy ads, bots, and super PACs. It cannot cast a ballot.
Three things, starting today:
Use his megaphone against him.
Walking away from X hands him the field. Stay…and make every post cost him something: name the $366 million, tag the candidates cashing his checks, and treat “free speech” from the man who paid for the referee as the punchline it is.
He built the platform to amplify. Amplify the receipts.
Vote like the stakes are what they are.
Election Day is November 3…twenty days out. Check your registration now…before any new proof-of-citizenship rule can knock you off a roll. Then show up.
Make the price visible.
Every candidate taking Senate Leadership Fund or America PAC money should be asked…on camera…what Musk expects in return. Make them answer.
He is betting $366 million that you will do none of this. Prove him wrong.

Back soon.

P.S. He said it himself: without his way, “democracy is dead.” He is half right. Democracy dies when one man can afford to buy it. The rest of us cannot afford to let him.

Yes and, don't forget the value of all the spend on Twitter that he would also be contributing probably I'm sure that runs into eight figures itself.
Actually, what would you charge a company that wanted to desert all the algorithms for months. Probably more than $100 million right there.
Musk and his broligarch buddies have been treating the US as the subject of a hostile takeover. Strip the country of its assets. Take the money and run.
Citizens be damned.
