THE ODDS BE DAMNED: WHY WE STILL HAVE REASONS TO BELIEVE DEMOCRACY CAN BE SAVED
The Jack Hopkins Now Newsletter #371 A Late Night Rally Message
Here’s a late night rally message for you. I believe we have what it takes to save democracy.
Have you ever been really determined? You almost certainly have. When you’re determined to do something, it’s because you have a strong belief backing it up.
Let me tell you something right out of the gate: Belief is not some fluffy concept to make you feel better about the dumpster fire we're wading through.
Belief—true belief—is fuel. It is dynamite. It is what turns scared citizens into immovable sentinels. It is what turned farmers into fighters…housewives into code-breakers…and students into soldiers of the civil rights movement.
If you think the odds are against us…you’re damn right.
They always have been. That’s what makes our cause noble. That’s what makes it necessary. And that’s exactly why it’s still possible.
You want reasons to believe we can save democracy? I’ll give you five. But I’ll warn you now—each one comes with a price. This is not a feel-good list. This is a call to arms.
1. The Corruption Has Been Exposed
We are not fighting in the dark. The veils have been lifted. The tapes have rolled. The texts have been subpoenaed.
The corruption is not hiding under layers of state secrecy anymore—it’s out in the open…running for re-election…hawking merchandise…and barking orders at extremist mobs.
And you know what? That’s good. Because sunlight is still a disinfectant.
Because people do care. When crooks are in the shadows…they can operate undisturbed.
But when they're front and center…screaming into microphones and threatening to dismantle the country’s institutions…it galvanizes.
We now have a moral narrative to rally around. We know what we are up against. No illusions, no naïveté. And knowing the enemy is the first step to defeating them.
2. People Are Angry—And That’s a Good Thing
Anger is energy. It's action waiting for a direction. And right now, millions of Americans are furious. Furious at corruption.
Furious at lawlessness from the top. Furious at the idea that the very freedoms their parents fought for are being auctioned off to billionaires and fascists.
This isn't apathy. This isn't resignation.
This is righteous indignation, and it’s worth its weight in votes, donations, organizing, and resistance.
Your job—our job—is to channel that fury. Shape it. Aim it. Turn it into campaigns… into turnout…into block-by-block infrastructure that the authoritarians can’t match.
3. They’re Not as Strong as They Want You to Think
The illusion of invincibility is their favorite trick. But scratch the surface and you’ll find chaos. Disarray. Half-baked strategies…unstable coalitions…and a shrinking demographic base that is one bad election cycle away from collapse.
Trump, DeSantis…Greene…and the rest of them? They're not masterminds. They’re marketers.
They sell fear…and they profit off power. But they can’t build coalitions beyond their base. They can’t solve problems. They can only destroy.
The machinery of democracy—when it runs—can outlast them. The courts…the vote…the peaceful resistance. But it only runs if we maintain it. Which means showing up. Every damn time.
4. The Next Generation Is Already Mobilizing
You think Gen Z is going to let the dream die quietly? Think again.
These are kids who’ve grown up practicing active shooter drills…watching their planet burn…and seeing their rights stripped away by ancient politicians with no skin in the game.
And yet—they are fighting back. Online. In classrooms. At protests. At the polls.
They are registering voters at record levels. They are running for office earlier than ever. They are calling out hypocrisy…dragging corruption into the light…and weaponizing platforms their opponents barely understand.
But they need mentorship. They need you. They need us to hold the line long enough for them to take it from us.
5. We Still Have the Numbers
Read that again.
Despite the gerrymandering. Despite the voter suppression. Despite the stacked courts and right-wing media echo chamber—we still have the numbers.
There are more of us who believe in justice than those who want to turn the clock back to 1850.
There are more people who want healthcare…education…a livable planet…and civil liberties than those who want to burn it all down.
We just have to organize better. Communicate louder. Show up stronger. Win not just once—but repeatedly. Like it’s life or death.
Because it is.
But Here’s the Real Truth—Belief Alone Isn’t Enough
You can’t just read this and feel inspired and move on. That’s not belief. That’s a sugar rush. What you need is conviction.
Conviction gets you up at 5 a.m. to canvas a neighborhood. Conviction keeps you writing when it feels like no one is listening. (I sometimes fall asleep at my desk, with my fingers still on the keyboard…then my head pops up, and I write a while longer.)
Conviction holds your head high when you speak uncomfortable truths to people who want to pretend everything is fine.
This country has been saved before by people who refused to believe it was beyond saving. And guess what? It’s our turn now.
So don’t just believe we can win. ACT like it. Fund like it. Organize like it. Vote like it. Because the other side is.
And we? We have the numbers. We have the facts. We have the history. We have the rage. And damn it, we still have time.
So stand up. Lock in. And fight like hell.
Because democracy isn’t dying on our watch.
Not if we have anything to say about it.

Dammit Jack! You so often want me to become an American, so I can go out fighting! 🤣.
As usual, I’ll restack your message, in the hopes that my puny # of followers will read it, though I think Twitter is pissed at me recently and curtails views of my tweets.
No worries, I’ll jusr tweet it again, if necessary 💪
