The damage being done is being lost to time. Without action, strong action, gutsy action, by those given the options to take action, in this case, Congress, the erosion of our government and of our country is being aided by ALL involved in federal governance.
Later is already here. The time is now. We will devolve into single party rule forever if the moment is not met with severe urgency. This is not hyperbole, it is reality.
For every action there should be a reaction and if there isn't then something is lost. We need some fresh strong new blood furor democracy. We need this congress of dems to grow a pair as they say. I also like the "he who hesitates is lost" from Mary.
Thank you, Jack. “Hesitation” is your word that stands out most strongly to me. Just as you described about surviving crisis situations, hesitation can result in disaster! As I think of Congress as rather parental in their role within checks and balances, and when I compare that to timing of actions, based on your important description, I know that no parent who wants to avoid a child’s repeated unacceptable behavior or a growing performance of wrongs. Most parents, as I knew them best, would act swiftly to discipline without hesitation. There was no uncertainty about what would not be tolerated.
I do remember that a mother of one child would be put out with that child’s behavior. Several times we heard her say, “Wait till your father gets home.” Although we did not know how that resulted, the comment seemed to have no effect. Fortunately, these many years later I can vouch for the child having grown up to be a very responsible person.
In our crucial situation, however, I like your idea of acting immediately, showing that such and such is not to be tolerated, and having on record, the name of each congressional member’s response. The fact that specific people failed to support the action has conditioned many people to believing that failure to succeed would be pointless, but you have made such a fine point, Jack. Each of your points is a fine one.
It is important to consider a personality, yet people vary in their perspectives and perceptions of predictions of the person in question. As you have wisely enumerated types of responses of the particular person resulting from each action or non-action, it seems that the best congressional action is that of the strict parent. The time is now. There is no second chance, There is no hope that lives of people and our governance will improve. The fact remains firmly that “The time is now.”
The song title, “It’s Now or Never”, was a love song, I believe. However, the words seem appropriate in numerous situations being faced now.
Of course, I restacked your newsletter and remain grateful. I appreciate your in-tune, well timed perceptions as to what we readers are needing.
Jack, this is absolutely right. We must protest, take our government back. If Republicans refuse to listen, and continue to give this guy a pass, we must protest.
I can't believe we are not having 10 million people in the streets opposing this lawless regime right now. If laws don't hold for "them" then they can't protect me either. Let's get out there Saturday, this Saturday, every Saturday in every city and town in the country, and tell Congress we want a Constitution and laws. And don't tell me they are helpless. Yes, it's never been done in the USA, but Brazil put their former president in prison. We can too. We just have to want to. Saturday, noon. Let's insist on morals, values, equality, and laws applied fairly to everyone. No one voted for Steven Miller or Russell vought, we should not be letting them run our government!!!
After, our 2 failures to impeach, yes, I have thought it a waste of time. But I realize it is the required action per the Constitution, GOP, is thwarting. It’s symbolic. Just wish it had teeth, and a chance for good to win, over evil.
I agree with action needed. Someone has needed to act since 2015. Actually, someone has need to act on Trump since the 70s. He was a criminal then, always has been. Don't get lost in all the possible psychological problems may or may not have. Millions of folks are clinically narcissistic, psychopathic, etc. Thing is, not many of them turn to sexuaul assaults, money laundering, extortion, name-calling, insulting, coups, enjoy snuff films, lying or running other countries. Trump is just a criminal. Treat him as such.
Jack, this is by far your best article yet! 💯 Succinct, to the point, as the Brits say, spot on sir!! I have posted this on my 🦋BlueSky page and forwarded to Congressional Dems on BlueSky as well. I have made a special something for you, my friend. Please email me your post office box, you have my email address. Thank you, thank you, thank you. This absolutely needs to be read and said!! #HOLDFAST
I liked your suggestion for action by forwarding your article to the Democrats that voted to table the recent impeachment. Unfortunately, what I found in the attempt to do so, is that the the forms ask for your address and then inform you that only those that reside within the service area of the member can contact the member.
It is now or never comes to mind! One of my favorite articles.
I think we need to get busy reminding the DOJ to release the EPSTEIN FILES and Congress to impeach Trump. The Constitution has teeth if our Congress uses its bite power! They need to be reminded that midterms are acoming and we are awatching them. You earn votes!
Exactly. Madeline Albright said that fascism occurs slowly-like plucking a chicken one feather at a time. I will send to congressional reps and senators. Thank you.
This hit me hard and I know exactly why. I remember precisely where I was and what I was doing when that vote failed. I was right here on SubStack… in a chat room. Which one isn’t important… probably. I was angry… furious that so many Dems who I had expected to vote for impeachment didn’t. I had people coming at me left and right. People I thought knew what they were talking about. Who knew more than I did, “They TABLED it.” “They didn’t vote against it.” Yes, actually they did. But… I was told I didn’t understand what that meant. “They tabled it because they didn’t have the votes.” “This way they can come back to it LATER.” I finally logged off feeling sick to my stomach. Something didn’t feel right and now I understand why. It wasn’t right. It was exactly the wrong move and while I accepted their line of thinking… until now… It never felt right.
Thank you for explaining this so clearly. This feels dangerous though and that sick feeling is back. I’ll chase it away by searching who voted against it… like you said… and sending this to them. I can only hope they’ll read it and take heed.
Damn Democrats are going to wait until there’s nothing left to wait for. No democracy left to fight for. No TIME LEFT… No LATER!
Thanks Jack. This was such an important article. Frightening but so important.
ReStacking.. Reposting… and hunting down some spineless Dems.
Speaking of authoritarians and accountability. I just saw a report that judge in Netanyahu’s corruption case was just killed in a traffic accident…? It would only be more obvious if he fell out a window.
I am printing out your newsletter and addressing envelops to those Dems who voted “no” right now. Will keep doing it about once a week. Would every day be better?
This is fabulous, Jack.

Thank you, Mary E...I really appreciate that. And you’re right...hesitation has consequences...especially when the damage compounds quietly over time.
When those entrusted with the authority to act...choose restraint instead...it doesn’t freeze the moment...it allows erosion to continue.
I’m grateful for your clarity here...and for engaging with this so thoughtfully!

Outstanding article Tonight Jack, Thank you, and as always, I'll reStack ASAP 🙏
Thank you, Karen. I've been a bit on FIRE today lol. I vent most effectively...when I channel it into something constructive! ;)

It’s now Hopkins Inferno! 🥰👍❤️
Yeah, your eyes were fairly snappin’ in that video. I was like, “Ooo. He’s mad!” 😳

Look up their website. Just go ahead if it is possible , even if they say you need to be in right district.
