This made me think of what’s next ? How can I help more? I think it’s the phone bank. Helping make phone calls . I’m deeply concerned by the folks who seem to sleep through the news of what is actually going on. I know change is coming. I hope it is progressive and not regressive.

Very well said. I have the same unsettled fear about the role that crisis may be required to play, especially in light of how resistant some on the right have been…even as they experience the harsh consequences of their own vote. But you hit the nail on the head….that we can hope to overcome and be a new and better nation.

My two cents from Glass-half-Empty: I've thought about this a lot since last summer when the fit began to hit the shan. I sincerely hope I'm wrong but I feel we are on the verge of another war. There are too many hot spots that won't go away. Ukraine, Gaza, Iran getting ready to relocate nuclear venues, the US so split that much of the time we don't know if the administration is on foot or horseback. The looming storm cloud of the spending bill on it's way to the Senate which includes the hidden clause that would make our mad dictator our mad king. What a godawful mess.

Those and all of those smoldering hot spots that have been going on for years. They erupt once in a while to get our attention. Example: India and Pakistan. And both of them have Nuclear Weapons.

Jack hits the nail right on the head on this one.. One needs to take one's self back to the bleakest times in one's life. And remember how you handled that. In my case there were times when I thought it would be the end of the world. But's what's ahead, assuming we survive the almost certain acceleration of environmental catastrophes, makes those bleak moments pale by comparison. I'm beginning to think this is all part of evolution. Nature will win this one way or the other.

I want to make a quick plug for the American Red Cross, where I'm a volunteer disaster responder. We come together in disasters across the US and territories with the level of intensity you describe. I've deployed to Guam after a typhoon and Florida after tornadoes. When we in LA had the devastating fires in early January, volunteers deployed from as far away as Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands to help us. There's a sense of unity and mission regardless of the politics of either the responders or the clients we support. And a major goal is to strengthen local organizations to support long-term recovery and preparedness.

This article truly hit home with me. I am trying to come together with a husband and a dear friend of mine. It's the most difficult thing I've ever had to do and there are times when I don't think I can do it anymore, but obviously, I have to. The thing that blows my mind about this horrible division we have in this country, is that the red side people are still so damned happy all the time. They are totally satisfied with what is happening. I, on the other hand, am struggling to keep together with all of the terrible things going on around us. This whole situation seems to have burned logic at the stake on both sides. jmho
