How to Explain to a 4th Grader What the President Will Try and Do in His Speech Tonight

Try this tonight. Sit a fourth grader down and explain it. Watch what happens to your vocabulary.

You can’t say “election integrity.” A kid doesn’t know what that is. You have to say the actual thing:

“A man lost a game six years ago. He still says he won. Tonight he’s going on TV to say it again.”

Then the kid asks the only question that matters. “Does he have proof?”

And…you have to say no. Because there isn’t any. Not in six years…not in sixty court cases…not from his own lawyers…not from his own spy chiefs.

So the kid asks the second question. “Then why is he doing it?”

Now you’re stuck. Because the honest answer is:

He wants to change the rules before the next game…and he needs everyone scared enough to let him.

A fourth grader gets that immediately. They’ve met that kid. Every playground has one.

Here’s the part that should bother you.

Nothing I just wrote is simplified. That’s not the kid version. That’s the whole thing.

If your explanation only sounds reasonable…when you use big words…it was never reasonable.

It was just dressed up.
