Teri...that's a sharp read, and I think you're onto something real.
The MeidasTouch/Substack/YouTube migration isn't just a few personalities jumping ship; it's audiences voting with their attention.
When people stop trusting the gatekeepers...they don't stop wanting news...they GO FIND someone who'll talk to them straight...ad-free...without a corporate parent doing the math on what's safe to air.
Pelley landing somewhere independent would fit that pattern exactly...and...honestly...he'd bring more credibility to it than most!
I think Colbert landed in Michigan where he was at one time. I may be wrong but He will have a following with wherever he lands. I also like D. Earl Stephens of Enough Already a former managing editor of Stars and Stripes.
Totally agree. We don’t watch MSM news or anything aired for popular consumption.
Why? Because agencies that are supposed to bring us unbiased truthful reporting can’t be trusted to REPORT THE TRUTH.
Because those same agencies are silencing reporters who are just trying to do their jobs.
America is no longer ‘the land of the free and the home of the brave’.
Our forefathers, yes, the same ones who fought for this Country’s freedom, would be ashamed, appalled, and fucking pissed to learn that everything they fought and died for is being treated like trash today.
FUCK CRIMINAL RAPIST TRUMP and his weak ass brain dead followers. YOU did this, you pathetic moronic losers!
Carma...Thank you...and I'm with you on the core of this.
When the agencies meant to report the truth can't be trusted to...and reporters get shown the door for doing their jobs...that's NOT a small problem. That's THE problem. You're right to be angry about it.
I totally agree with you especially about those who fought for our freedoms. My dad was WW II vet that came home as a paraplegic and his brother was career Army who did 3 tours to Nam and his last stop was the Pentagon and there is a gate named for him at Ft Belvoir plus his grave overlooks the Tomb of The Unknown Soldier. Every time drumpf is in Arlington I cringe as he probably is so rude he walks right over the graves of these men.
I’m not even related to you, and I feel a strong sense of pride for your family members and their service! Not everyone can or wants to serve, so, for me, those who do are extra special, as are their family members for sharing their military folks.
Thank you . My dad was shot in Germany and was one of the first to have hand controls to drive a car. He died when I was 16 and at 74 I realize I was too young to ask him questions about his service. I know he lied about his age to get in and that he became an officer in the Army. His younger brother went to West Point and taught there. He had a degree in engineering ad we did not see him much as he spent time in Turkey, Viet Nam and worked on the Tennessee Valley Authority. Both men died in their 50's. I went to my Uncle's funeral and saw the riderless horse and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and Kennedy's grave. I was 20 at the time. It left a big impression on me.
I’m not sure where Scott Pelley will land but I’m sure we haven’t heard the last of him. Legendary journalists like Pelley don’t just go quietly into the night. The MeidasTouch Network is a possibility but Pelley will decide if that’s a good fit for him or not. I hope CBS comes to regret their decisions one day. If not, this country is likely in a lot of trouble.
It’ll be interesting to see how it all unfolds from here. I’ll be watching.
Well said, Susan...and I think you've got the read right.
A reporter with thirty-seven years...and that many awards...doesn't get fired into silence; he gets fired into a BIGGER microphone.
Where he lands matters less than the fact that he's clearly not done TALKING...and CBS handed him the one thing a journalist of his stature can't buy: the freedom to SAY IT ALL... without a corporate parent flinching.
Your line about CBS regretting it...is the one I keep turning over.
Because there are two ways this goes. Either the firing becomes a cautionary tale...the moment a great newsroom blinked and paid for it...or... it becomes the new normal...and nobody pays anything at all.
Which one we get depends a LOT on whether people keep watching... exactly like you said you will.
Grateful for you, Susan. Keep watching...and keep telling me what you see.
Sue P...thank you for reading...and for subscribing.
It genuinely makes this work possible!
I'd put it slightly differently...only because the distinction changes what we do about it.
Nobody handed CBS a script. A corporation looked at a $16M settlement...a merger needing federal sign-off...and...a White House with a long memory...and quietly decided not to make trouble.
That's not a propaganda ministry. It's self-censorship ...dressed up as editorial judgment... drifting there one "safe" decision at a time.
Which is EXACTLY why someone SAYING IT OUT LOUD...and eating a firing for it...matters.
Glad you're paying attention, Sue. That's the WHOLE ballgame.

Well, the government is right. The protesters are a threat!
They are a threat because they are out observing what the government is actually doing, and then posting their testimony (often with accompanying video) on the web for all the world to see, thus undermining the bullshit stories the government is trying to sell us. And the government is desperate to shut that down, which is why they are trying to take over the mainstream media.
Good for Pelley for telling us the truth about what is going on at 60 minutes! Let’s hope it’s the first crack that will bring down the dam.
dl...that's a clever flip, and there's a real point in it.
"Threat" does different work depending on who holds the word...and what you're describing is a threat to a narrative: the citizen with a phone who documents the gap between the official story...and the FOOTAGE.
Renee Good is the WHOLE argument in one frame; the account said she tried to run an agent down; the video reportedly showed her wheels turned AWAY.
The camera was the threat...because it TOLD ON THEM.
Which is EXACTLY why control of the newsroom...becomes the prize.
I have loved Scott Pelley for years…always found him to be a thoughtful and credible journalist who was searching for the truth not headlines! I saw his interview and what he said has been transpiring in CBS since it was taken over the Ellisons and Paramount, and they brought in the extremely under qualified shill for this regime, Bari Weiss.
Here’s to more honest revelations from Scott Pelley and seeing him land somewhere we can still enjoy his honest, straight talk style of journalism!
Christie...you nailed why he matters: searching for the TRUTH, not headlines.
That's exactly the quality that's vanishing, and...EXACTLY why his exit carries so much weight; a man who never chased the splashy line...just DELIVERED the splashiest one of his career...and only because he MEANT IT.
Bringing in a shill...and pushing out the REAL journalists...tells you everything about the direction the Ellisons want.
Here's to Pelley landing somewhere his honesty survives...the audience will follow him, NOT the logo.
I've been watching 60 Minutes since it first aired. I have always considered it to the the first main stream independent journalism show. I hope if those that remain are not given the reign to continue their independence that they leave and take the entire team with them.
Well, i had a nice response to your post, sadly the app ate it again. Anyway, thanks for keeping the truth alive and sharing analysis of Scott Pelley's firing. Steve Schmitt believe will file a wrongful termination suit. it should be interesting. legacy media is no more. The truth is out there, they just refuse to let it in.
"Scott Pelley just named names. The most alarming part is how few people were shocked." You could substitute practically every headline since Trump came on the scene in 2015 for the first sentence quoted above and the second sentence would still be appropriate.
Gary... that's a sharp observation...and it points at something genuinely worth sitting with.
There's a real phenomenon here; each revelation lands a little softer than the last...and the shrug gets a little easier.
Psychologists have a dull name for it (the shifting baseline), but...you've described it better: the second sentence never has to change.
Where I'd add one wrinkle: I don't think the lack of shock is only numbness. Some of it...is people quietly updating; they expected this...so confirmation isn't a jolt.
That's not apathy exactly; it's a grim kind of pattern-recognition.
The danger is when "I'm not surprised" slides into "so there's nothing to do." Those are different responses...that look identical from the outside...and the whole game is keeping the first from collapsing...into the SECOND.
Which is...I suppose...the argument for still writing the headline...EVEN when nobody gasps.
Thanks for reading closely enough to catch the load-bearing sentence, Gary.
We Boomers have to keep alive the vision of the country we had when we were younger. We got our news from Huntley/Brinkley and Walter Cronkite and justifiably trusted them. We CAN be that nation because we HAVE BEEN that nation. We have to keep the best of our history alive.

Here's hoping you're right about the crack.

Steven...that's a long watch, and it gives your take real weight.
You remember a show that treated independence as the WHOLE point...not a liability to manage.
And...you've spotted the shrewd part: a name like Pelley leaving is a headline...BUT...the team leaving WITH him...is what actually moves a franchise.
The building isn't the show. The PEOPLE are. They could rebuild it somewhere new...and leave CBS holding a logo.

Urggghh! That's aggravating, Jo...I know. I've had that happen before.
Regarding Scott Pelley, you're most welcome. I agree. It will most definitely be interesting!

I can do no more.
