You gave me a blast from the resent past here, Jack. It seems so long ago but was just eight months for heaven sakes. Damn this whole Regime and Thank you for shining a light on the injustice, and will reStack ASAP 💯👍

Karen...eight months feeling like eight years is a symptom...not a mood. Volume does that; nothing gets time to land...before the NEXT thing arrives.

Which...is partly why the email only surfaced NOW. The cuts happened in December. It took a lawsuit....and a courtroom...to find out WHY. Trump f*ckery at its "finest."

Thanks for the restack! That's the part that actually moves it

Jack is correct that the timestamp is the tell, so let me start there, and then get considerably less polite than he allowed himself to be.

File the date. File the hour. 2:43 in the morning is not when competent people draft policy. It is when men who know exactly what they are doing choose an hour thin enough that nobody senior is awake to say no. Note the subject line: “brainstorm call.” Note the euphemism doing the work an honest sentence would have refused to do. This is not incompetence. Incompetent men don’t coordinate five cabinet agencies before dawn. This was a man running a protection racket from the Resolute Desk, and the only thing separating him from any other extortionist who ever leaned on a shopkeeper is a title and a flag pin.

Now let me be plain about Tina Peters, because Jack was more careful with her than I intend to be. She tampered with voting machines — the actual, physical machinery democracy runs on — got caught, got convicted by a jury of her own state, and went to prison for it. That is not persecution. That is consequence. A woman who broke the machinery of elections does not become a martyr because the president likes her, and “God Bless Tina Peters” posted from the most powerful office in the world does not launder what a Colorado jury already adjudicated. She earned every day she served, and a president who tried to buy her out of it with hundreds of millions of dollars in stolen infrastructure money is not defending justice. He is purchasing impunity for someone who attacked the one system he needs broken to stay in power.

And Governor Polis — I want to be direct here, because misplaced caution does nobody any favors. He had the water. He had the climate lab. He had disaster relief for counties that just watched their own hills burn. He had every incentive to fold, and for a while, he held the line — until May, when he granted her clemency anyway, and let a woman convicted of sabotaging elections walk free rather than let his state keep bleeding. His own party censured him for it, correctly. Whatever calculation he made — protecting the next grant, protecting the next fire season, protecting whatever comes after this — he still handed a felon her freedom to make a shakedown go quiet. Extortion that gets paid does not stay a one-time event. It becomes standard operating procedure, and Polis is the governor who demonstrated, on the record, that the ransom works.

Here is the arithmetic nobody in either party wants to say aloud: a corrupt president built the gun, and a governor who should have known better still handed him the trigger. Both of those facts are true simultaneously, and neither one excuses the other.

Jack is correct that the evidence was never the obstacle. The obstacle is that the machinery built to punish men like this moves on the same electoral calendar the extortion is designed to survive. That is not a comforting conclusion. It is, however, the only honest one available.

Jane...three things you've got exactly right.

On Peters...a jury in her own state convicted her of tampering with the physical machinery elections run on. That's CONSEQUENCE...not persecution...and a Truth Social post does NOT launder a verdict. The martyrdom framing only works...if you SKIP...what she actually DID.

On the racket becoming routine...that's the UGLY part that keeps me up. Extortion that gets paid doesn't stay an incident. It becomes a TOOL...and every damn governor in the country...now knows the PRICE of saying no.

Finally...your closing line is the honest one; the machinery built to PUNISH this...moves on the SAME electoral calendar the EXTORTION is designed to OUTLAST.

That's sure as hell not comforting. It's just TRUE...and it's why November KEEPS being the answer to questions...that should NOT need one.

#HOLDFAST...Jane!

Hypocrisy like this is staggering. Either they hate election voter tampering or they don’t. Is the truth that they only care if it affects the votes for them?

Jack Hopkins's avatar

Mary Ann...you stated it in its simplest form. They don't give a DAMN about election interference...as long as it's not interfering with THEIR votes.

JFC another day of fucking the American populace over again.. the Orange Shitstain’s on a damn roll.. I’m hoping really really hoping we can turn this bullshit around at the midterms.

Jack Hopkins's avatar

Morgan...that's it. That's EXACTLY it. There's going to be all of this bullshit swirling around us...and it's going to get much worse. BUT...our objective remains the SAME: Get more blue votes than they do red votes.

That may not get us there. That's just a real possibility. However, unless we have the votes...we already KNOW we won't get there.

We MUST have the votes.

Voter interference only counts if you are on the losing side? I remember vividly the mock election at the HS that I worked at for the 2016 election. Small potatoes right? I witnessed for the first time ever ballot stuffing and the kids bragging about it. Two guesses who they voted for and it wasn't Hillary Clinton. I brought it up to the AP US History teacher running it and she shrugged it off. Looking back that seems the whole story of this Trump regime. Lie, cheat, swindle, strong arm, try to overwhelm us. He has cheated his whole life and legitimized it at all levels. We need to mobilize the Vote this midterm election and be ready to protect it.

Jack Hopkins's avatar

Kristine...that mock election detail is a good one; not because it proves anything about real elections...but...because of what the TEACHER did.

Shrugging it off...yeah...that's the bullshit that taught the lesson. Kids learn early...whether rules are real...by watching whether anyone ENFORCES them.

And HELL YES. Mobilize...then PROTECT it. In that order!

Isn’t this a pattern of the Regime’s actions in general to do these emails and congressional votes in the middle of the night, when they think no one’s watching, too obvious? All this sneaking around has got to stop! So much for Trump’s claim of having the most transparent government of any law and order.

CC...late-night votes are real...though...they're a bipartisan habit going back decades; unpopular bills have always moved at 2 a.m....under BOTH parties.

The email...I'd handle softly. 2:43 a.m. IS a hell of a detail...BUT... it could just as easily be a staffer...who works late. The email is damning for what it SAYS...not when it was sent; and THAT part....needs no inference at all.

Thanks for bringing up these points, CC.

This proves that not only is Trump the worst president we’ve ever had, he’s simply not a president at all. He’s nothing more than a bully in office. A president works for ALL of the people he or she governs, not just the ones who do what he or she says.

Jack Hopkins's avatar

Scott...that's the standard the office actually carries: federal money belongs to the PUBLIC...NOT to whoever's holding the pen.

And, Scott...notice WHO paid for it in Colorado: rural Western Slope counties...that voted FOR him...and then DENIED fire relief. The punishment didn't check anyone's registration.

It never does!

And this regime has the nerve to investigate people like Letitia James. Unbelievable but not.

Talk about a racket… I’d heard about this and truthfully there is so much that I did not take a deep dive into the mechanics behind the scenes. I was outraged the governor (a Democrat no less!!) had given Ms Peters a pass but had not heard the rest. Stomach churning that we have a don and a Donald in the WH.

Thanks for laying out the timeline for us, Jack and bringing it to our attention. It’s far too easy for things like this to slip by…. and it very well could be our state next…..
