Signal
Two things happened on Wednesday that the victory lap coverage buried.
First…Iran struck Saudi Arabia’s East-West oil pipeline. On ceasefire day. Hours after accepting the agreement.
A drone hit a pumping station along the Petroline route…the 1,200-kilometer system carrying roughly 7 million barrels per day from Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province to the Red Sea port of Yanbu.
That pipeline is Saudi Arabia’s only remaining high-capacity export route. Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz six weeks ago. Petroline is the only reason Saudi crude is moving at all.
Iran hit it anyway.
Bloomberg reported the damage was limited and flows continued. But that’s not the point.
The point is the timing.
Ceasefire announced. Ceasefire accepted. Pipeline struck. Strait restricted again.
All in the same 24 hours.
Second…the White House announced that Vance, Witkoff, and Kushner are flying to Islamabad on Saturday for the highest-level direct US-Iran contact since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
Those two signals…taken together…tell you everything about what’s actually happening beneath the diplomatic surface.
