Let me start with the most important thing I can tell you.
Stop looking for the one big theft.
Everyone’s waiting for the movie version…the dramatic moment…the stolen ballot box…the smoking gun. That’s not how this works. That’s not how any of this works.
What’s actually happening is quieter…and smarter…and far more dangerous:
A thousand small cuts…spread across a dozen fronts…each one boring enough on its own to slide right past you.
One of the fired election officials described it perfectly this week. He called it a “death-of-1,000-cuts situation.”
That’s the strategy. Not one wound… a thousand of them. So let’s name every blade… because a cut you can see coming is a cut you can block.
Here’s the whole playbook, in plain English.
Front One: Shrink the electorate before a single vote is cast
The cleanest way to win an election is to decide, in advance, who doesn’t get to vote in it.
The centerpiece here is a bill called the SAVE Act. In plain terms…it would force you to produce documentary proof of citizenship… a passport…a birth certificate…not just to register…but…to update your registration after you move or change your name.
Think about who that quietly knocks out. Married women whose names don’t match their birth certificates. Working people who can’t take a day off to dig up documents. The young, the poor, the old, the people who move a lot. It stalled in the Senate, where it needs sixty votes… so watch for them to try to do it in pieces, by executive order, instead.
And…here’s the tell that it’s not really about fraud:
Even if it fails…it wins. Because the plan is to turn the failure…into the grievance. If Republicans lose in November…the line is already written…“we didn’t have the SAVE Act, so the election was rigged.” The bill is a setup…either way.
Right alongside it:
The purges. The Justice Department has been leaning on states…at least two dozen of them…to hand over their voter rolls…and pushing states to run those rolls against a shaky federal database to flag supposed “noncitizens.”
That database is unreliable. Which means real citizens…get wrongly flagged and dropped…and most of them won’t find out…until they’re standing at the polls.
Front Two: Redraw the map so your vote matters less
This is the quiet one with the biggest payoff… and most people never see it.
You don’t have to stop people from voting if you can make their votes not count.
That’s what gerrymandering is. Trump has pushed Republican-run states like Texas …and North Carolina…to tear up their congressional maps mid-decade…and redraw them to manufacture safe seats.
And the Supreme Court just handed them the tool… gutting a core piece of the Voting Rights Act…making it far harder to challenge maps that dilute the power of Black and brown voters.
I’ll be straight with you, because that’s the deal between us:
This front is closer to a draw than the rest. Democrats are fighting back with their own redistricting in states they control…and by one count…the seat math roughly cancels out. But “roughly cancels out” is not the same as “fair”… it just means both sides are now bringing knives…and the voters are the ones getting cut.
Front Three: Seize the machinery that runs the count
This is where this week’s news fits.
Firing the last Democrats off the Election Assistance Commission wasn’t random. That board sets the standards for voting systems…helps run the certification of the machines themselves…and controls the national voter registration form. Take it over… and you can start rewriting the rules of the count from the inside.
Add to that:
They’ve been quietly stripping the federal government’s election-security help for states…the people whose whole job was defending the vote from tampering.
And here’s the part that should keep you up at night…straight from one of the country’s top election-law experts:
It is far easier to mess with an election on the back end…when the ballots are being counted and certified…than on the front end, when they’re being cast. Watch the counting. Watch the certification. That’s where a close race gets stolen…not at the ballot box, but at the tabulation table.
Front Four: Turn law enforcement into a weapon
Fear suppresses votes just as well as any law.
The FBI has already hauled off more than six hundred boxes of 2020 ballots and voter rolls from Georgia and Arizona. The Justice Department has sent letters threatening state election officials with criminal charges.
And…the one to watch most closely…federal troops or ICE agents near polling places. One of Trump’s own former advisers has openly floated recent ICE deployments as a “test run” for the midterms.
Picture it. Uniformed federal agents outside your polling place. They don’t have to stop anyone. They just have to be there…and a certain number of people will decide it’s not worth the risk to walk past them.
That’s the whole point. It’s not about arrests. It’s about the ones who stay home. Some states have already seen it coming…and made it a felony for armed federal law enforcement to loiter at the polls.
Front Five: Build the excuse to throw out the result
Everything above has a backstop… and this is it.
Underneath all the machinery is the narrative. He’s already calling elections “rigged” before they happen. He’s already calling it an “emergency.” He’s openly telling Republicans to “nationalize” the vote…and saying the federal government should “get involved.” None of that is loose talk. It’s laying the predicate.
The goal is to have all three pieces in place at once…the machinery…the story…and the legal excuse…so that if the results don’t go his way…he can challenge how the votes were counted or refuse to accept how they were certified. He’s not just trying to win the election. He’s building the argument for ignoring it if he loses.
