Creating The Greatest America There's Ever Been: I'll Believe It When I See It? No—You'll See It When You Believe It
The Jack Hopkins Now Newsletter #423
People often toss around the old cliché: "I'll believe it when I see it." They say it with the resigned tone of someone who doubts the impossible could ever happen. It's a phrase whispered by skeptics…cynics…and all those poor souls who've given up before they've even begun.
But what if I told you this was all backward? What if…instead…the real power lies in a slightly different order—an order that changes everything?
In my professional career…I've consistently reframed this old chestnut to something far more accurate…something far more powerful:
"When you believe it, you'll see it."
And, my friend, there's nothing theoretical about this. I'm talking cold…hard…proven psychology. Time-tested. Research-backed. Let me give you an example:
Imagine someone suffering crippling anxiety…unable to drive for the last 3 or 4 years. Their entire world has shrunk. When asked, “Would you like to be able to drive again?”, they reply with resignation and defeat, "I just can't see myself doing it."
And in that sentence lies the revelation.
They’ve unknowingly disclosed the core of their problem—and part of the solution. You see, what they've revealed is an internal "mental movie" playing over and over inside their mind.
But it's a horror flick. They see themselves heading toward the car…sitting behind the wheel…and then collapsing into panic…overwhelmed by fear…anxiety…and dread.
They literally cannot visualize themselves driving without catastrophe. And so, they're right—they can't see themselves doing it…because every attempt is poisoned by this crippling mental rehearsal.
The power of internal imagery cannot be overstated. The pictures you hold in your head either open the door to possibilities or slam it shut.
Here's the secret most people don't realize:
You won't be able to see yourself doing it... until you can see yourself doing it.
Simple, right?
Yet profoundly true.
The Power—and Danger—of Internal Images
Research reveals that human behavior is deeply influenced by the images we hold in our minds.
In fact, your internal pictures…your vivid imagination of future scenarios…dramatically shape your motivation…actions…and ultimately your reality.
If you constantly see yourself failing…panicking…or giving up…guess what happens? You fulfill that vision. Why? Because your brain is wired to follow through on whatever story you're repeatedly telling it.
When someone says, "I just can't see myself doing that!" they've unknowingly given away a secret—the exact mental trap they've fallen into.
Imagine a person terrified of elevators. If you asked them to visualize themselves riding one, guess what they'd see?
They'd see themselves walking toward the elevator…maybe even stepping inside…but suddenly their mental image spirals into panic. They imagine the doors closing…their breath catching…and their anxiety surging. Immediately…they mentally flee…and their inner movie ends in failure.
And guess what? With that movie playing constantly…their body and mind will follow through on it every single time.
Flipping the Script—How to Change "I Can't See It" to "Yes, I Can!"
The solution isn't complicated…but it does require commitment and clarity.
One of my primary goals with people trapped by these limiting visions is to guide them step-by-step into creating entirely new mental imagery.
They learn to watch themselves—from a safe internal distance—peacefully stepping onto that elevator…driving that car…or giving that speech.
We "rewrite" the script.
At first, they might resist. Their minds have rehearsed failure for years. But with a bit of patience…gentle persistence…and practice…the shift happens.
They slowly begin to see themselves calm…confident…and composed.
Once they can vividly picture success…something remarkable occurs: it becomes possible. Motivation soars. Confidence returns. They begin to believe, and as they believe, their reality aligns to match.
"I Can't See Our Country Ever Getting Back to Normal"
Now let's talk about something bigger. Something that touches all of us.
Perhaps you, like many others…have felt hopelessness creep into your heart when looking at the direction of our nation.
Perhaps you've muttered quietly, "I just can't see our country ever returning to the kind of freedom…dignity…and constitutional honor we once knew."
And again, just like the anxious driver…you've unintentionally locked yourself into a mental prison. You've rehearsed failure so many times that you've accepted it as inevitable.
Here's a painful truth:
If you truly can't see our country reclaiming its ideals, you are far less likely to take meaningful actions to make it happen. Hopelessness breeds apathy, and apathy leads to surrender.
But what happens if we flip this script, too?
What if you vividly picture our nation rising once again…reclaiming its principles… and electing a president who deeply respects the Constitution?
What if you replace that bleak mental film with one of passionate crowds…restored justice…and a thriving…resilient democracy?
You begin to see possibilities again. You find motivation. You find hope. And with hope comes action.
How to Shift Your Internal Vision
Here’s a powerful and practical way to shift from "I can't see myself doing it" to "Yes, I can!"
Identify the mental movie currently holding you back. Clearly notice the exact images and feelings of failure or fear.
Gently replace that movie with one of success and confidence. Initially, you may feel resistance, but keep practicing until the positive image becomes just as vivid and natural.
Engage in guided visualizations or meditation. Enlist a trusted friend, therapist, or guide if needed.
Practice regularly. Make your new internal imagery a daily habit. Every day, see yourself calmly and confidently achieving your desired outcome.
Here's the Bottom Line:
The truth about human psychology, about motivation…drive…and achievement…is that your mental images matter profoundly.
What you can't see…you can't achieve.
But once you learn to vividly picture yourself succeeding—in small goals or big dreams—your entire world shifts.
"When you believe it, you'll see it."
Not just a catchy phrase—but proven…powerful wisdom.
So tell me:
Can you see yourself succeeding?
Can you see our country turning around?
Can you see the life, the family, the freedom, the success you deeply desire?
If your answer isn't a resounding YES...then change the internal movie.
Because once you can see it clearly in your mind, my friend…you're already halfway there.
I’ll be back soon…with even more!
Focused as hell,
-Jack

I’m living this one out (once again) RIGHT NOW!!! I can feel it building upon itself day-by-day.
Exactly!! Visualization has worked uncountable times in my life. The more vivid, the more accurate. My favorite example was when I was training to become a firefighter and imagining myself looking in the mirror in a woman's bathroom and seeing myself in a firefighter uniform. It was a very specific mental image. I did everything necessary to be qualified and was finally hired. I was using the restroom at the fire academy and after washing my hands I looked up and saw the EXACT IMAGE OF MYSELF IN THE MIRROR that I had been imagining. It was mind-blowing....which is WHAT YOU DO, Jack. You blow our minds and make us sane. Thanks!!
