This morning, on Substack, Dean Blundell posted “‘SHUT UP’ at Bethpage: How Team USA’s Meltdown -And Its Fans- Embodied Trump-Era Sore-Loser Energy”. It reported on the disreputable conduct and vulgar language of the U.S. fans at the Ryder Cup (as well as the noteworthy play of the non-U.S. players).
As you have noted, Jack, civility is gone, perhaps it was never embraced or respected by the thug currently at the top. Violence in action and in rhetoric is all the rage…but if all plays out as the Ryder Cup did yesterday, the rest of us simply need to emulate those that performed well and keep our focus, take the necessary actions, to not lose sight of the tasks at hand.
Thank you Jack. You’ve been doing a lot of research that helps us so so much. The brainwashed speak violence on a daily basis . They are angry people. They lash out and fight for their guns. Yesterday I posted on FB about the No Kings protest on 10/18. I got a MAGA comment how I was inciting HATE. Those people are truly sick in the head. They’ve been de-friended.
I so appreciate the concrete tasks to add to my list of things I can do to contribute. I live in hope that small actions add up--that if we all keep doing the things we can manage, every damn day, we will slowly but surely tilt the thing till it slides (or whatever the better metaphor would be :) It is exhausting and frustrating not to see or feel any immediate effect, except on occasion (like Kimmel!). But I watch old movies about the French Resistance to keep this terrible time in at least some perspective. Your clarity and info are so helpful, Jack. Thanks.
Be the behavior you want o see. Speak against the horror. Don't let hate win. Demonstrate how to treat others in whatever moment you're experiencing. Civics and being civil are lacking, so step up, step in, and help make it happen.

I agree with Mary E. Focus, and model the good behavior. Thought we learned that in preschool, but I guess a reminder is in order.

Great article Jack, thank you for my motivational therapy. You do a fine job calming my nervous nerves! 🥰❤️👍
Democratic leadership is beyond out of touch and could use a tactician such as yourself.
